Arm, a global leader in semiconductor technology, is once again pushing boundaries with the introduction of its Accuracy Super Resolution (ASR) technology for mobile games. Designed to work seamlessly with popular game engines, ASR promises remarkable performance boosts and enhanced visual quality, setting a new standard for mobile gaming.

In addition to its renowned processors for mobile devices, Arm has ventured into the realm of upscaling technology with ASR. Unveiled last year, ASR claims to enhance mobile game performance by up to 53%. Recently, at the Game Developers Conference (GDC), Arm reaffirmed its commitment to providing developers with the tools they need for easier integration of ASR into their games.

To facilitate this integration, Arm has released an open-source ASR experience kit for Unreal Engine, one of the industry’s leading game engines. Soon, Unity developers will also have access to this technology, expanding its reach across multiple development platforms.

Upscaling techniques like ASR are integrated into the game pipeline via game engines, enabling developers to maximize performance while maintaining visual fidelity. Major companies like NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel have long provided similar toolkits for PC game development. Now, Arm is bringing this capability to the mobile gaming world.

With ASR, developers can achieve higher frame rates, improved rendering efficiency, and smoother gameplay. Additionally, the technology reduces power consumption by up to 20%, ensuring prolonged battery life. Users can also customize visuals by choosing to upscale at 1.5x, 1.7x, or 2x, letting them prioritize performance or visual quality.

Arm isn’t the only player in the mobile upscaling game. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Game Super Resolution (GSR) debuted last summer and relies on AMD’s FSR 1 technology. In contrast, Arm’s ASR leverages the superior FSR 2, enhancing performance while maintaining visual clarity. The technology previously claimed to deliver up to 53% higher performance than in native resolution, and a recent video demonstrates ASR offering an impressive 87% uplift at 2x upscaling on the Immortalis-G720 GPU.

Game developers eager to harness this technology can access the ASR experience kit directly from Arm’s official website. The kit includes the source code, a plugin, tutorials, and sample materials to get started with Unreal Engine integration, with Unity support coming soon.

Arm’s ASR is set to redefine mobile gaming by offering developers the tools to maximize performance without sacrificing visual quality. As the technology becomes more accessible across major game engines, gamers can look forward to smoother, more immersive experiences. With competitors like Qualcomm racing to keep up, Arm’s adoption of FSR 2 technology places it firmly at the forefront of mobile gaming innovation.
